Hello Choir Families,

Things are really starting to come together!  Costumes are almost complete and back drops are being made for each choir.  Shout out to Christina for altering Studio dresses and the boys got names put on their shirts this week.  Robyn and Aileen ordered us some incredible back drops, and Jessica and Jason are working on  the frames that will hold them.  The drama tech program painted a fence for us and Reagan and Peyton made chandeliers and a new numberline!  We are so blessed to have so many amazing humans on our team.  The boys had another session with Alex and all choirs will get a clinic with Andrew on Monday.  It’s really exciting to see the shows coming together.  

Prop Needs

We are in need of a few more items if anyone has or can make them.  We need old baseball gloves, preferably brown and small.  We have 3 leftys FYI.  We also need high end shopping bags.  Gucci, Tiffany’s, Sax 5th Ave. etc.  These should be sturdy as we will be throwing them around and they’ll need to last the season.  They do not need to be authentic, just look real from stage.  

Tech Parents

We have some fantastic back drops for each choir that we will be using throughout our competition season.  We need 2 adults to assist our student tech teams at competitions and concerts.  We would like these parent volunteers to be consistent for efficiency.  The pieces are very light so there is no strength requirement for this position. Tickets have been ordered and we are all set for the trip!  Here is the itinerary for the day and a link for early pick up if needed.  I’ll be handing this out in class next week.

Red Carpet Concert Shout Outs!

We have our second home concert of the year coming up and we are so excited to show you what we’ve been working on.  This show will be our preview to the competition season!

If you would like to place a one line shout out to your student in the program for our show please place that order by Tuesday Jan 27.  Orders can be placed at McAuliffeChoir.com.  You can also order buttons, break-a-legs, and baseball cards!  

Tickets for the show will go on sale next week.  You will receive an email when it’s time to order.  Once you secure your tickets, be sure to sign up to volunteer on the night you are not watching the show.  

All-Parent Booster Meeting

All parents are invited to our booster meeting on Feb. 6 at 6:00pm via Zoom.  I will send the link the week before.  We will lay out all of the information for second semester, student and parent expectations for competition, concerts, Knott’s etc.  For parents who’ve never been through a competition season this will be very helpful and I encourage all of you to hop in the Zoom.  The meeting should only be 30 minutes.  

SCVA Vocal Jazz and A Cappella Festival

Sound Check will be participating in the SCVA A Cappella Festival on Saturday Feb. 7th from 8:30-4:00.   We will be taking a bus to the event in Santa Clarita.  This is a very unique experience for the students as they will hear high school vocal jazz and a cappella ensembles, and get a clinic from professionals in the field.   

We will need at least 2 parents to join us on the bus and help organize lunch for the students.

Hello Choir Families!
Happy New Year and second semester!  I hope you all had a nice relaxing break.  I spent the entire break in Kansas with my family.  It was a great time and I am revived and ready to get back to it.  We have a concert right around and we will hit the ground running tomorrow.  Here are a few reminders of upcoming events.

Tuesday-Shoes and garment bags are due.  We will be putting our costumes in our garment bags and wearing our shoes for rehearsal this week.  

Jan 13-Pictures in Class
Students will be changing in class, taking the group pictures, individual pictures, and buddy pictures and changing back.  We will need parent helpers throughout the day and I'll have a sign up later this week.  Please sign up if you are available.

Hello Choir Families,

This week in choir we started new theory worksheets, started new music, and took a dance test.  Students are learning how to name notes on the staff and communicate with an instrumentalist to identify pitch.  They are all working hard on their competition sets as well and we will be having solo auditions next week and after Thanksgiving so we can start placing everyone on stage.  

Costume Return

We almost have all of our costumes returned and are just waiting on a few more kids.  If your students borrowed something from the school for the Broadway show, please wash and return it ASAP.  We need all pieces returned so we can get the costume closet organized. 

High School Holiday Show!

Sound Waves, Studio Singers, and Soul Men have all been invited to perform at the high school holiday show.  The girls will be performing on Thursday Dec. 4 and the boys will perform at the Saturday matinee on Dec. 6.  All three groups will attend dress rehearsal on the 3rd 4-6:00.  

The girls were visited by Xquisite alumni who taught them Stretchy Pants and the boys will be learning Hanukkah on Tuesday.  This is an optional performance, but students who participate will receive extra credit!  Here is all of the info so you can plan with your family.

Hello Choir Families,

It was such a busy week, but we had a lot of fun today wrapping up our Broadway show! Each of the choirs got to learn a song from another group, and they had a blast! Sixth Sense, Sound Waves, and Studio Singers all learned a song from the Soul Men “Big River” set, and Soul Men learned “One Fine Day" from Studio’s “Beautiful” set!

A Successful Broadway Show!

Our first show of the year was a success! I’ve heard from so many people that this is one of our best Broadway shows ever!  I’d like to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated concessions, supplies, and volunteered their time.  And to our booster board who is just extraordinary. I am so grateful to you all for organizing front of  house.  It’s a huge blessing to be able to focus on the kids and the show and not worry about what is happening outside.  We did have a few hiccups but we have already been working to solve that for the next show.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

We are so excited to announce that your generosity raised a total of $1,668 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation! The Tuesday show raised $831, and the Wednesday show raised $837. Thank you for your contributions and for supporting this amazing foundation!

Starting next week, we will be working on material for our show in February and competition season in March. The students are very excited to start diving in.

Hello Choir Families,

This week in choir we started learning music and choreography for the February show!  The students are doing an amazing job and are very much ahead of where we usually are at this time of year.  Thank you for all you are doing to support the program, keep up the great work and I’ll see you at the Lip Sync Battle on Wednesday! 

Lip Sync Battle

Next week we have our annual Lip Sync Battle!  Please encourage your child to attend and bring friends.  It’s only $5 at the door and students can buy votes for $1 each.  I’ve seen all the acts and we have some really fun stuff going up so come on out and support.  If you can’t make it, you can watch it online and vote!

Just a reminder to be putting together a costume for the Broadway show.  The guidelines for each choir are listed in the attached doc.  Be mindful of shoes.  My favorite places to thrift are Precious Life Thrift Store here in Los Al-small but excellent prices-or Savers near Lakewood Mall or Huntington Beach-very nice stores and sorted by size.  

Garment Bag-Due Oct. 24 in class

Students will need a bag to put their costumes in to be stored in the classroom.  The bag should zip closed and have the students name clearly labeled on it.  Garment bags are preferred and I’ve included an Amazon like if you would like to purchase one.  Duffle bags will also work but please not back packs.

Sixth Sense and Sound Waves try on day

Costumes for our February show are starting to arrive and we will be trying them on in class during Sixth Sense and Sound Waves on Tuesday.  Please have the girls wear a tank top under their clothes on that day.  

Button pics-Oct. 20

Monday Oct. 20 we will be taking button pictures in class.  All students will have their pictures taken and you will be able to purchase them on a button at our concerts.  Many of the parents collect these buttons as the kids go through the program and continue wearing them at the high school.  

McGaugh Carnival

Sound Check has been asked to sing at the McGaugh Carnival at 11:55 on Oct. 18th.  They will wear their choir t-shirts and jackets with dark pants.  We will meet by the stage at 11:45-please allow time for traffic and parking.
