Hello Choir Families,

This week we officially wrap competition season!  Studio Singers and Sound Waves will be competing at Anaheim High School tomorrow if you want to come support.  AND Sound Trax and Sound FX from Los Al will be competing at Nationals tomorrow in Orlando.  You can watch the live stream at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSFWWSPnl2U

With testing and conferences we had a pretty easy week.  Students got to work on their music video projects and the girls’ groups continued preparations for tomorrow.    Please stop in and check out our recording studio at Open House.  

Cypress Competition Saturday March 28th-Sound Waves and Studio Singers

The competition is being held at Anaheim High School (811 W Lincoln Ave, Anaheim, CA 92805) and NOT at Cypress or Kennedy High School.

Tickets can be prepurchased at https://cypressshowchoir.ludus.com/index.php  or at the door.  The students will be performing in Session 2, so make sure you order tickets for the correct session. Performances start at 8:00am and Sound Waves is 2nd so don’t be late!

We will start loading the bus at 6:45am and leave for Anaheim High School at 7:00am. After the competition, we will have a group lunch at the Anaheim Packing District. Students will need to change out of their costumes and into their grey McAuliffe choir t-shirt. Students will need money for lunch. We’ll leave the competition at around 12:45 to head to lunch and are expected to return back to McAuliffe campus at around 3:00pm (subject to change).

Theory Test

All choirs will be completing a study guide and will have a theory test this Thursday over, rhythm, note names, solfege, dictation, and definitions.  Sound Check has also added key signatures to their repertoire this semester! It is an open note test so all information on their study guide can be used to help them with their test.  They will get their study guide on Tuesday.  Thursday is a minimum day so students who need more time to take the test may come to the choir room right after school to finish.

Music Video Projects-All Choirs

These videos will be viewed at our Concert on the Green in May.  Students will be working in class over the next couple of months to create, record, and film music videos.  We will be using the recording studio in the choir room to record vocals and students will be filming on and off campus.  

Audition Information

All students will turn in an audition either to me or to the high school  regardless of their elective choir for next year.  This is an assignment for choir and teaches them how to follow instructions, upload a resume, record their audition, and prepare for an audition.  The audition assignment is already on Classroom for 6th and 7th graders and the 8th grade information will be coming soon.  We are working in class on all aspects of the audition.

Angels Game

McAuliffe will be singing the national anthem at the Angels Game on May 18!  If you would like your student to participate in this event you must purchase tickets by April 11th.  Here are the details and schedule for the event

Hello Choir Families,

December has arrived and with that comes all of the holiday shows!  We have students performing all over town this week!  Check the calendar and come support.  Each choir is working hard on their competition sets, and we have finally ordered all of our costumes!  Two of our groups had fittings this week, and we will have the other groups fitted before we leave for break.  Don’t forget to order your shoes if you have not, and please let me know if you need help with that.

High School Holiday Show

The Los Al Choir is underway with their holiday show this weekend.  Last night Sound Waves and Studio performed “Stretchy Pants” with Xquisite and Saturday at 2:00 Soul Men will be performing “Hanukkah” with Xtreme.  Be sure to turn in your extra credit if you performed or saw the show this week.  

Soul Men Tomorrow!

If your student will be performing with Xtreme tomorrow, they will report to the lecture hall at the high school by 1:45.  They will wear a white button down shirt with black pants.  Please see that their shirt is ironed and tucked in.  They will leave at intermission (around 3:30).  If you are available, it would be good to have some extra supervision in the lecture hall.  I’ll will be there, but I’ve lost my voice so I won’t be very effective at getting their attention. 

Katella Senior Living Show

Sound Check will be singing at Katella Senior Living on Tuesday 9th at 3:45.  If you have family there we would love for you to come enjoy the show with your family.  

Videos and Pictures

Videos and pictures from our amazing Broadway show are now available at McAuliffeChoir.com.  Pictures will be delivered via digital download through Pixieset.  Videos will be placed on a hard drive.  These make great gifts for grandparents!  Order now to have them in time for the holidays.  

Competition Shoes

If you have not already done so, it is time to order your child’s competition shoe.  Each choir is wearing a different shoe this year so be sure to check carefully.  Shoes can be brought into class as soon as they arrive and left for the duration of the season.  All students must have their shoes by Jan. 6th when we return from break.  If there is a financial, size, shipping, or other concern, please email me by the first week in December so I can help make sure your student gets what they need in time.  

Sixth Sense-White Ked-type shoes- Due Jan 6

Sixth Sense will be wearing white canvas Ked like shoes for their next show.  They do not need to be real Keds but should be plain all white canvas.  Here is a link to Amazon-you do not need this exact shoe.  These shoes should not be worn elsewhere until after the February show.  The girls need to write their name on the inside of the show and bring them in a box to keep in the classroom.  Shoes can be brought in any time before break and are due the day we come back.

Sound Waves-Character shoes Due Jan. 6

Sound Waves girls will all need a pair of flesh character shoes.  1 or 1.5 inch heel with a strap.  No t-strap!  I’ve included a link to a version on Amazon for convenience.  However, you can get any brand from any dance store you choose.  Different brands have different versions of the “flesh” color and some brands make caramel color for darker skin tones.  You can find the brand/color/price that best fits your student.  If ordering from Amazon, I recommend getting a couple different sizes to see what works best.  Most character shoes you will need to go up a half size.  OR you can go to a dance store and try some on so you know what size they will need.  If you have any questions or will not be able to get the shoes, please let me know right away so we can help you out.  Please bring the shoes to class as soon as you have them.  We will start breaking them in right away.

Hello Choir Families,

This week in choir was all about solos tryouts!  The kids did an amazing job and I think they had fun doing it.  They were super supportive of everyone and I’m so excited to have so much talent and work ethic in our groups.  There will inevitably be students who are disappointed and that is perfectly OK.  I let them know that putting the show together is a big puzzle and there is no absolute right way to put that puzzle together.  It’s up to Kylie and I to decide what we think will work best.  They can only control what they can control so just keep working hard and putting themselves out there.  And as always “bloom where you’re planted”.  

I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving break and have some much deserved rest and relaxation with your families.  I am forever grateful for the wonderful community we have created together here in the  McAuliffe Choir.

Our students of the month for November are Layla Gregory, Mia Alonso, and Vanessa Tell.  All three have stood out in class as diligent workers who take on challenges with a positive mindset.  

And Kylie is staff of the week!!! Congratulations! We are so lucky to have you and appreciate everything you do for us.

We have been invited to attend the Holiday show dress rehearsal on Wednesday Dec. 3 from 4:00-6:00 at Los Al High.  Soul Men, Sound Waves, and Studio Singers will be participating in one of the numbers as well.  This is an optional event and students will not receive extra credit.  HOWEVER, participation or viewing of the show will be extra credit.

High School Holiday Show!

Sound Waves, Studio Singers, and Soul Men have all been invited to perform at the high school holiday show.  The girls will be performing on Thursday Dec. 4 and the boys will perform at the Saturday matinee on Dec. 6.  All three groups will attend dress rehearsal on the 3rd 4-6:00.
