Hello Choir Families,

She is going to be a part of TWO DIFFERENT productions of the musical “Something Rotten!” This musical comedy follows the story of two brothers struggling to outshine the wildly popular William Shakespeare, so they decide to write the world’s very first musical. This show is typically rated PG-13 and has some more mature content, including mature humor and language. Catch her at the Rose Center Theater (Westminster, CA) from June 27th-July 20th, and at the Torrance Theatre Company (Torrance, CA) from August 9th-17th. Links to buy tickets are below!

This Week in Choir

Hello Choir Families,

Choir Olympics went very well this week.  We had challenges in singing, dancing, and costume design and students made commercials for choir!  We all had a blast and the kids were very creative.  We celebrated a great year today with awards, food, and a slide show.  Thank you for your generous donations of food and money for Kylie and Ms. Hills.  This is the largest donation we have ever collected!  Bravo everyone.  Your children are going to need a lot of water and exercise this weekend to offset the massive amounts of sugar they consumed today.

Next week we will start our final project which will be to design a show choir set.  Students will work in class to design and pitch a set they think we should do next year.  I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Costumes

We still have quite a few students in each class who have not returned their costumes.  Some haven’t been taken home from competition and are in the classroom dirty ://  Please turn them in clean ASAP so we can get everything put away for the year.

Shoes

We have several pair of character shoes left in the cubbies.  If you want them for next year please take them home next week.  Anything left will go into the donation bin for students needing shoes next year.

8th Grade Families

Dance auditions for high school are next week!  Students who will be participating in choir will attend in person auditions on Tuesday (boys) and Thursday (girls)  We will review the dance in class and they should also be prepared to also sing the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful.

Eighth grade choir members will be singing for Promotion.  We will review in class and will meet for a Sound Check 30 minutes before students are called to line up.  Please plan accordingly when you are making arrangements for promotion.

You have been invited to participate in Bingo!  This is a fun way to earn money for your child’s high school choir dues and it happens every Tuesday night at the Cypress Bingo Hall.  Anyone over 21 can sign up to work and it goes all Summer.  Go to losalmitoschoir.com to sign up.  It’s under “Bingo” on the drop down menu on the right.

Sound Check

Our June 1st event has a time change.  We will now be meeting at 4:00 for a 4:15 performance.  We will be going to In and Out after the performance for dinner and one last hang.  Our last day of class for Sound Check will be May 30th.

Angels Tomorrow / Concert Tuesday

Hello Choir Families,

The kids are almost ready!  Our last concert came up fast but these guys have really risen to the occasion.  They’ve worked hard this week memorizing lyrics, harmonies, and choreography.  The music videos are turned in and we are almost ready for the big show!

Angels Game Tomorrow!

Students will meet near gate 6 wearing their blue choir t-shirt and pants.  They will need their ticket with them, but all personal items can be left with families.  Once you drop your child, you can go find your seats.  I will be with them until after we sing.  I will walk them through gate 6 once we are done. Most of them are fine to walk with friends to the seats, but you are welcome to meet us at gate 6 entrance if you like.

Concert on the Green - Get your tickets and pre order your dinner!

Our final concert of the year is just around the corner!  Tuesday night we will be celebrating our extraordinary year with music videos, photo booth, live concert, and awards!

We will have food trucks and music videos showing in the MPR from 5:30-6:45.  You may bring in your own food if you like, and pre order meals are available for Shelly’s Mexican.  The live concert will start at 7:00 in the Outdoor Amphitheatre.  You will bring your own lawn chairs and blankets for this event.  Students will be wearing their blue choir t-shirts and sitting in the audience so they can cheer on their peers.  8th graders will perform their promotion song and we will give class awards in each choir.

Sign up to Volunteer!

We are still in need of help for the concert.  Big needs are set up and tear-down, but we still need some help with tickets and spirit wear as well.  Everyone will get to sit and watch this one so you won’t miss out by volunteering.  Please sign up today so I don’t have to panic!

Hello Choir Families,

I hope you all had a lovely Spring Break and got some much needed rest.  I know some of you are traveling and many of you were able to stay home and relax.  I was in the stay home and “mostly” relax category.  We are just under 2 weeks until Concert On the Green!  Tickets will be available at McAuliffeChoir.com Sunday at 5:00 and you will also be able to pre-purchase dinner and break-a-legs.  Benefactors will receive an email with their code to order early.

Costume Return - Monday, April 28th

Please clean, label, and return your student’s costume to the choir room by April 28th.  If your outfit needs to be dry cleaned, Sunset Cleaners will deliver it to the school so you do not need to go back to pick it up.  Please make sure they are clean!  If your costume is dirty it will contaminate the entire box once they are packed away.

Angels Tickets

Angels tickets have arrived and will be passed out the week we return from break. I’ll give you a heads up the day I send them  home so they don’t get lost in a backpack. I’ll include the timeline so you know how to plan for the day.

Concert on the Green

We will be doing our final concert on May 6th at McAuliffe.  We will have food trucks and music videos showing in the MPR from 5:00-6:30.  The live concert will start at 6:45 in the Outdoor Amphitheatre.  You will bring your own lawn chairs and blankets for this event.  Students will be wearing their blue choir t-shirts and sitting in the audience so they can cheer on their peers.  8th graders will perform their promotion song and we will give class awards in each choir.

Volunteer needs are a little less for this concert, but we still need your help.  We are looking for some creative help with some back drops so if you have skills in that area please check it out and shoot me an email.

March 31st Choir News

This Week in Choir

Hello Choir Families,

We had another amazing week in choir.  Students got a lot of work done on their projects, we took a music theory test, and Studio performed for Mrs. Letourneau’s core class!  Our cabinets have been removed and the new ones are in house.  Unfortunately the carpenter is getting married and can’t install them until he’s back from his honeymoon :)  So you won’t get to see them at Open House.  BUT  Our sound studio will be completed so you can stop by and take a peek.

Theory Test

I cannot begin to express how impressed I am with our students!  This week we took a very difficult theory test and more than half of the kids in every class got A’s.  We even had a few A+ which shocked me.  I did not learn most of this information until college, so huge shout out to those students who did well.  If your student did not do well, do not freak out!  Like I said it was a very hard test and the students who have been in choir longer did better.  If they don’t get it yet, they will.  It did not affect anyone’s grade in a meaningful way.  I use this as a way to develop our sight reading and listening skills, and to challenge and empower our music leaders.

Studio Singers Sweeps at Luther

Congratulations to Studio Singers!  They traveled to Luther Burbank this weekend and won Best Music, Best Show, and 1st place.  Lucy Simoneaux took home best performer and Charlotte and Clara were amazing in the solo division.  The girls had a great day overall and represented us well in all aspects on and off stage.  We are so proud of their work and we really appreciate all of the parents who came out to support.

This Week in Choir

Hello Choir Families,

Xtravaganza!!!!

We had a night of highs and lows.  All of the groups were incredible and performed the best they’ve been all year.  The competition was highly competitive, and scores were very close in every category.  Studio, Soul Men, and Sound Waves all got second place, and Studio and Soul Men took home “Best Music” of which I am incredibly proud.  The results were not entirely what we expected given the outstanding performances we witnessed, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.  We win and lose with grace, and use the judges comments to continue to improve our craft.  Congratulations to Yanet Anteneh, Azayla Usher-Holland, and Silas Willes for winning best performer!  Shout out to all of the boys who came early to support the girls and to the girls who came back at 10:00pm to support the boys!  It was a really fun night of community.

All District Choral Festival
Wow! what an amazing night.  Our students rocked it on stage!  I was so proud of how well they represented our program.  The elementary choirs were great and sooooo big!  I'm excited to have many of your younger kids coming up the ranks.  It was also inspiring to see the high school choir perform-especially my daughter and my former students. Xtreme and the all boys number are always one of my favorites and the all girls number was so powerful.  Thank you for coming out to support the kids and to our chaperones for keeping the kids safe and orderly throughout the night.

Projects

For our concert in May, students are going to be making music videos.  They will choose songs and record them vocally in our new studio provided through a LAEF grant.  Sixth Sense and Sound Check have begun work on this project and the other groups will begin work next week.

Large Canvas Paintings

We are using old/ugly canvas frames to make sound panels in our new Sound Studio.  If you happen to have anything in your garage or see a large piece at a thrift store, please send it in.  We would like to be up and running with the new studio next week.

Close Harmony Festival for Sound Check has been cancelled.  🙁  Those who have signed up will be issued refunds shortly.

Angels Game

Tickets will go on sale next week for the Angels game.  This is an optional event open to all choirs.  Students who participate will have to sell at least three tickets.  This will include a performer ticket for themselves and 2 spectator tickets.  You can sell as many as you want.  Students will find their own way to the game and parents will be responsible for them as soon as they are done performing.
